The Grand Tour

The Ballroom, Living Room, Dining Room and Crystal Room – all on the main floor – offer a gorgeous wedding reception setting, with original decorative fireplaces and all of the original crown moulding and trim in every room.  The Crystal Room features original period antiques and a historic Chickering & Sons grand piano, for our guests' use. The main floor is centrally air conditioned and offers access to the dramatic wrap-around veranda.  Dancing and wedding ceremonies can be accomodated in the Main Hall.  Ceremonies can be conducted outside on the property grounds, provided the details have been arranged with the Executive Director.   All of the rooms offer delightful views of the gorgeous grounds through the original picture windows. 

The second floor offers an additional gathering hall and central decorative fireplace, the South Room Conference Room and the Archive Room complete with dining table and seating for 8.  Also located on the second floor is a stately Groom’s Suite and a beautifully appointed Bridal Suite, both with private restrooms.  The bridal party can access the suites through a separate entrance, if desired.  Highlighting the staircase landing is the original stained glass window which allows sunlight to stream through.  Opportunities for wedding photographs are plentiful at the Lounsbury House. 

Mansion Capacity

On the Main Floor, the Ballroom and Living Room (which adjoin) can seat 110 guests and the Dining Room (across the Main Hall) can comfortably seat an additional 40 guests for a formal seated affair, allowing for a maximum seated capacity of 150 guests.  A maximum of 225 guests can be accommodated for a walk-around cocktail reception.   

Historic Designation Regulations

Due to our historic designation as a National Register of Historic Places property as well as our Ridgefield Historic District location, the Lounsbury House must adhere to the following regulations: The music curfew for the mansion is 11:00pm for events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 10:00pm for events Monday-Thursday.  The mansion must be vacated by midnight due to local zoning and noise ordinances.  Smoking is absolutely not permitted in the Lounsbury House.  Pets are not permitted inside the Lounsbury House - except for guide dogs. 

How We Work

Our Rates:  The Lounsbury House offers different rental rates for weeknight, weekday and weekend event rentals.  We also offer special seasonal rates from January 1 to March 31.  Please contact us at rcc@snet.net to request a customized quote and a private tour.  Rates are not posted on this website.   Additional hours may be purchased, at a pro-rated hourly rate,  pending approval by the Executive Director and the event schedule.

Our Contract and Payment,  Policy, Rules and Regulations:  Upon reserving The Lounsbury House,  guests are required to agree to the terms of our contract and submit a non-refundable deposit to confirm and reserve the date.  The contract balance is due prior to your event.  A security deposit is required to cover any damages to the property and grounds that are incurred during your event and also to ensure that the rules and regulations are complied with.  Failure to comply with the rules, regulations and guidelines will result in a 100% forfeiture of your security deposit.  A Certificate of Insurance, naming the property as additional insured is required.  Host liquor liability is required via your caterer.  All documents and payments must be received prior to your event.  The Lounsbury House accepts as payment MC, Visa and personal checks.    All contracts are subject to the review and approval of the Executive Director.  Contracts may not be transferred to another lessee without prior written notice.   The Lounsbury House staff and Board of Directors reserves the right to refuse to rent the property or to terminate an event if the best interests of the property are not being served.

Tours:  Private mansion tours are available only on weekdays and must be requested by appointment only. Please call 203-438-6962 or send us an email at rcc@snet.net.  To offer our guests the most enjoyable and private of events, tours are not permitted on weekends or during an event.

The Romantic Bridal Suite - pictured below, top - offers a peaceful retreat for you and your bridal party to change, relax and touch up your hair and makeup during your big day.  This lovely and elegant setting provides an quiet respite from all of the excitement and is just "For Ladies Only".  A private ladies room is located next to the Bridal Suite.  The majestic staircase - pictured below, bottom - with the dramatic stained glass window, circa 1896, provides brides with a picture perfect entrance to celebrate the most important day of your life.  The Lounsbury House is one of the only historic mansions in Connecticut to offer these beautiful and original features on the premises.
